That's an A7-500W Magnificent without the walnut veneer, mounting style. IMHO, too much space between woofer & driver/horn. In addition bass response doesn't sound as defined down low like that, without plenty of EQ.
(I have a pair). (Of Magnificents, I mean).

The XO point is too high also, they need to be 500 Hz, same as the Magnificent. 1200 Hz is for high power PA and the speakers will be far enough away from the crowd for the large acoustic center distance between drivers isn't a problem, so a poor choice for HIFI/HT to my ears.

I was wondering why they had a 1200 hz crossover with 500 hz (511b) horns. Thought it was unusual--does seem like a "mismatch" of sorts now that you mention it. Maybe the previous owner used them for P.A. as you alluded to -- that would explain the distance between the woofer and horn and the 1200 hz crossover with the 511b's.....

Yeah, by the mid '70s they had bumped it up to 800 Hz, then a few years later, 1200 Hz, where it stayed for the small format drivers. It basically turns the 511 into a waveguide. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, just a poor choice for mating to a 15", with around 900 Hz being about optimum if you want to ~match polar responses through the XO BW.

Those are exactly what I bought new in 1977. They were called A7X. I have the original documentation. Just as they came from Altec.

Those A5's are cool! Would love to hear them.
